The Black Hand and Dragutin Dimitrijevic
Owen Geier, Eric Hickstein, and Nathan Kempf
Group Website
Section 1
We were interested in how small events can have world changing effects, and then we thought back to the World Wars. The assassination of Franz Ferdinand, Archduke of Austria-Hungary, was just a paragraph in a textbook, but we never knew how deep in to the Serbian government this "rouge assassin" went.
Section 2
We found several sources via the internet and our school library. We found a lot of useful material in the Oswego Review. We found many pictures via articles covering topics over the black hand and their doings. We also found a lot of information through published university papers. Many of our primary resources came as newspaper/magazine articles such as the New Herald post, or the Nation.
Section 3
We picked a website because all three of us had experience with technology, especially computers. We had all built at least one computer and knew the basics of coding. We looked at many examples of previous entries to see how a good website would be built. We originally wanted to make an interactive website with buttons on a homescreen behind a map and pictures of the assassins. Unfortunately, Weebly is only a simple website maker, and has a sub-par layout for anything besides a basic website. Pictures and buttons are only allowed in the center of the screen, the outside can not have anything. So we had to make a more simple website that Weebly could support.
Section 4
The Black Hand, Dragutin Dimitrijevic’s organization, their radical beliefs, and methods of leadership meant that he alone had the ability to start a war. The complex structure of the Black hand devised by him and his peers assured that the assassins would not be caught en route to Sarajevo. The assassination sparked World War One, changing the world as we know it forever. It's effects touched every country from America to Europe to Asia. Their leadership was fierce and triumphant, their legacy was the foundation of the twentieth century.
